Land Development Projects - Parks & Athletic Fields
Hall-Irwin has been selected to construct many community parks and athletic fields over the last few decades. We have built new football fields for college-level football and custom-designed parks for home builders as well as municipalities. By constructing parks and fields along with the housing developments, we help build more than just a place to live - we help build a community.

Sugar Beet Park
The City of Fort Collins collaborated with Hall-Irwin to bring to life this 5.3-acre neighborhood park on the site of the former Great Western Sugar Factory, which inspired both the naming and design of the park. The park includes multi-use turf fields, restrooms, a pollinator garden, and a custom-made 12' tall beet play structure. This structure is symbolic of the Great Western Sugar Factory, and before being installed at the park, was used as a temporary exhibit in the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery as a part of their Once Upon A Playground traveling exhibit. Train cars from the obsolete City Park mini-train line were repurposed into sliding benches, as an homage to the old train cars that once transported sugar beets across the factory grounds. This Park playfully takes on the history of the site and what the sugar beet industry once meant for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Colorado School of Mines- Creekside
During the construction of a football practice field, two NCAA soccer fields, and a structure for the concessions/restrooms/announcer's box, Hall-Irwin expertly navigated the large project scope. We managed the site survey, demolition, earthwork, fine grading, laser grading, and installing the site utilities. The project also called for retaining walls, site concrete, asphalt paving/markings, track surfacing, synthetic turf, site electrical, and field lighting. Further, we also installed a new scoreboard, irrigation system, and landscape.

Crescent Park at Maple Hill
Maple Hill Park is a 4-acre neighborhood park constructed for the City of Fort Collins. Within this park is a playground structure with three separate features which includes swings, a climbing structure, and slides. The park also has a basketball court, soccer field, heated underground restrooms, shade structures, and a duck pond. The landscape irrigation will be supplied through a 30' wet well from the duck pond which doubles as a non-potable water source for the non-potable irrigation. The unique rock wall that starts as a vertically stacked wall attaches to the concrete wing wall from the underground restroom facility and gradually transitions, or feathers out, along the hillside. This adds architectural features which progressively transition the restroom building features to the landscape.
One of the challenges we worked to overcome was the initial estimate was over the City of Fort Collin’s budget. Hall-Irwin’s preconstruction team and subcontractors evaluated options to reduce the construction costs while also maintaining the architectural impact of the project’s design. Overall, our selected value engineering options reduced the project’s costs by 15% of the original estimate.

Firestone Regional Sports Complex
Hall-Irwin was hired to construct a 14-acre sports complex in Firestone Colorado. The 600,000 SF project site is home to 3 baseball fields with dugouts, structural concrete seating, stadium lighting, and infield turf fields. An asphalt parking lot along with a playground, a picnic structure, and restrooms were also constructed as a part of this project.

Holly Community Park
Hall-Irwin was chosen to provide the infrastructure and site development for KB Homes in the small, scenic town of Erie, Colorado. The Colliers Hill development is home to 98 duplex units and a community amenities center with 15 miles of trails, parks, and open space.

Air Force Academy - Falcon Stadium
Hall-Irwin was hired to renovate the NCAA Field at Falcon Stadium to convert it from natural sod to synthetic turf. Our project team removed the existing sod and organics, laser graded the field area and installed an under-drain system and aggregate field base. We added USGA sand, incorporated turf grids, and installed a stabilized sand cap. Furthermore, new sod and irrigation were installed along the perimeter of the field, while synthetic turf was installed in the areas of play.

City Park Refresh
Hall-Irwin worked with the City of Fort Collins in designing a full revamp of the aging City Park, and it was decided they would begin by rebuilding the bathroom. Our team coordinated the demolition of the old bathroom, which was long-since in need of repair, and was also inhibiting the growth of several trees. Great care had to be taken in that process, as the trees were within a foot of the building, and Hall-Irwin was tasked with protecting all trees on site, which were a part of the City Park Arboretum. The new building was moved to a more optimal location within this network of champion trees, just a short distance away. When it came time to dig the building foundation and install underground utilities, our team employed the use of hydro excavators to ensure all large root systems remained intact. The new year-round bathroom is much loved by the public, and includes heating, beautiful landscaping and artwork, an exterior of stucco and 4” moss rock veneer, beetle kill tongue-and-groove ceilings, epoxy floors, adult-size changing tables, and custom steel partitions.
